On January 26, 2017 at the premises of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection the meeting of the Steering Committee on Twinning project “Assistance with implementation of SPS commitments under the EU–Ukraine Association Agreement” was held. The project is implemented in cooperation with the State Food and Veterinary Service of the Republic of Lithuania and Abruzzo and Molise Region Experimental Animal Health Care Institute “G. Caporale” (IZSAM), Italy.
The goal of the project is to assist government authorities of Ukraine in approximation and harmonization of SPS measures with the EU norms, as well as the implementation and realization of legislation that will expand the possibilities of trade with the EU for Ukrainian producers of food and agricultural products.
BC Project Leader Olexander Verzhyhovskyy in his opening speech welcomed the participants and underlined the importance of the project implementation.
RTA Petras Machyulskis and MS Project Leader Vidmantas Paulauskas presented the quarterly report and main outcomes of activities realized within the framework of project components. Furthermore plans for the next reporting period were outlined.
In particular, the results of studies on the implementation and enforcement of EU standards on animal transportation, organization of practical laboratory training for laboratory staff, working on coordination of national requirements for monitoring of residues and contaminants in live animals and products of animal origin with the provisions of the EU legislation were presented.
Head of Sector “Agriculture” of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Christian Ben Hull underlined the willingness of the EU to support Ukraine in realization of the Twinning project “Assistance with implementation of SPS commitments under the EU–Ukraine Association Agreement” that will improve the competence of civil servants as well as trade relations between Ukraine and the EU.
As a result of the working meeting the fourth quarterly report was signed, activities for the fifth reporting period were approved as well as the date of the next Steering Committee Meeting was agreed.
For reference:according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Initiation, Preparation and Implementation of the Twinning projects” as of October 11, 2016 No 700 the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service coordinates the implementation of Institution Building Instrument Twinning in Ukraine.
In addition, according to the relevant regulatory acts the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service is the national coordinator of institutional building instrument TAIEX and CIB programme implementation in Ukraine.
