On November 05, 2021, the second Steering Committee of the Twinning project for the State Service of Ukraine Food Safety and Consumer Protection (hereinafter - SSUFSCP) “Approximation of National Legislation of Ukraine in the field of State Supervision (Control) of GMOs in Open Systems, Protection of Plant Variety Rights, Seed and Seeding Production in line with EU Norms and Standards” took place online.
The project is implemented with the aim of contribute to address shortcomings in the field of state supervision (control) compliance with safety measures and spread of GMOs in open systems, protection of plant variety rights and seed and seeding production.
Vladyslava Mahaletska, Head of the SSUFSCP the beneficiary country project leader, expressed gratitude to the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine for support and maintenance of the project at all stages of its implementation.
During the event, Modris Frikmanis, Resident Twinning Adviser and Vadym Chaikovskyi, Resident Twinning Adviser Partner, reviewed the priority areas, presented the results of the activities for the second quarter of the reporting period within the three components of the project, and acquainted the participants with plans for the next reporting period.
In the framework of the Component 1: Approximation of Legislation, in the Verkhovna Rada was registered the draft law “On state regulation of genetic engineering and state control over the circulation of genetically modified organisms and genetically modified products to ensure food safety”. Within Component 2: Organizational and operational review of the SSUFSCP, was revised the existing institutional structure, operating procedures and methodologies. Within Component 3: Organizational and operational review of the phytosanitary laboratories, was prepared a report on the revised of organizational and operational structures and methodologies of the network of phytosanitary laboratories in Ukraine.
The event was also attended by experts from the Twinning project for the SSUFSCP from European Union Member States, representatives of the SSUFSCP and the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service to the standards of the European Union.
