The European Union launched its "Communication Awards 2013" competition in February 2013. The objective of this competition is to underline the importance of communication and highlight the requirement for each EU funded project to elaborate and implement a communication plan. The Communication Awards provides an opportunity to highlight the successes of good projects/actions and to reward colleagues and project leaders who succeed in communicating on these in an original and convincing way.
This year the focus is on video as a strong and efficient tool to communicate towards all kinds of audiences. 68 videos have been presented by EU Delegations and projects from all over the world. A pre-selection committee has selected 20 videos: there are 4 geographical categories, with 5 videos in each. The best videos will be selected by an online vote of the EU staff members. The winning video should be considered to be the best in terms of technical quality, presentation of results, and contribution to the visibility of the European Union. The voting period is going on from 1 May until 30 June 2013.
Based on these votes, a video will be elected Best Video in its category. Furthermore, these 4 videos will be nominated for the "Video of the Year 2013" award, which will be selected by staff during the EuropeAid (European Commission's General Directorate for Development and Cooperation) Staff Seminar on 25 October 2013.
The video by the Twinning project: "Improvement of Public Order Protection with the Interior Troops of Ukraine" is competing in the geographical category "Neighbourhood" together with videos from Central Asian countries, Egypt, Moldova, and occupied Palestinian Territory.
No monetary prize or any other material reward is foreseen for the winner.
