The Twinning project for the state service of ukraine on food safety and consumer protection is officially completed

On November 21, 2024, an event was held to officially conclude the EU Twinning Technical Assistance Project “Approximation of the National Legislation of Ukraine in the Field of State Supervision (Control) of GMOs in Open Systems, Protection of Plant Variety Rights, Seed Production and Seedling Production to European Norms and Standards”. This project is the 60th completed Twinning project in Ukraine.

The project was successfully implemented by the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection. Its goal is to improve the efficiency of state supervision over GMOs, protection of rights to plant varieties, seeds and planting material in accordance with European Union standards.

Head of the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service Nataliia Aliushyna emphasized that the implementation of Twinning and TAIEX institution-building instruments allows harmonizing national legislation with European standards and bringing institutions closer to the European efficiency level. These efforts are important steps on Ukraine's European integration path, on the way to ambitious reforms, deep modernization and adaptation to European standards. The Head of the NAUCS noted that the project was completed with high results and demonstrated an active position in using technical assistance programmes.

Maryna Kanavets, Director of the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service to the Standards of the European Union, in her welcoming speech highlighted the importance of the process of approximating legislation to European standards, thanked the project participants and international partners for their fruitful cooperation and activity in the process of implementing the initiative.

As of today, 2 more Twinning projects are being implemented in Ukraine. Another 14 are at the stage of preparation of the Twinning Fiche, and 1 is at the stage of signing a contract. In total, Ukraine has 76 Twinning projects and this demonstrates the effective coordination of these initiatives by the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service to EU Standards.
