On March 30, 2015 at the premises of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine the First Steering Committee Meeting for the Twinning Project “Support to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine in Strengthening Safety Standards of Commercial Road Transport” was held. The Project is implemented in cooperation with the General Inspectorate of Road Transport (GITD, Poland), the Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG, Germany), the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt, Germany) and the State Road Transport Inspectorate under the Ministry of Transport and Communications (SRTI, Lithuania).
The Overall Objective of the Project is to improve the Ukraine’s commercial road transport safety in line with the EU technical requirements and best international practices and aiming at decreasing the number of traffic accidents and resulting fatalities.
Oksana Reiter, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine on European integration and the Project Leader on behalf of Ukraine in her opening remarks expressed gratitude to the European experts for providing opportunities on using of international experience in creation of commercial road transport safety in Ukraine.
Michal Rzemieniewski, the Resident Twinning Advisor, presented the First Quarterly Report of the Project and plans for the next reporting period. In addition, the participants discussed and agreed the activities during the next Quarterly period and agreed on the date of the next Steering Committee Meeting.
Robert Maiworm, Junior Project Leader on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, Darius Sadaunykas, Junior Project Leader on behalf of the Republic of Lithuania, the RTA Partner Mykola Horbaha and Manager on Transport Sector of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Teodora Andreeva took part in the meeting.
The Head of the Division of International Cooperation Projects of the Projects Management Unit of the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service to the Standards of the European Union Artem Takhtarov attended the event.
For reference: since 2005 according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated on 06.10.2005 № 1424/2005 «The Issue on Provision of the Twinning Programme Implementation in Ukraine» the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service directs and coordinates the activity on preparation and implementation the Twinning Programme in Ukraine. Moreover the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service is the national coordinator of implementation of the institutional building instrument TAIEX and CIB Programme according to the relevant legal acts.
