On July 14, 2015 at the premises of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine the Second Steering Committee Meeting for the Twinning Project “Support to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine in Strengthening Safety Standards of Commercial Road Transport” was held.
The Project is implemented in cooperation with the General Inspectorate of Road Transport (GITD, Poland), the Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG, Germany), the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt, Germany) and the State Road Transport Inspectorate under the Ministry of Transport and Communications (SRTI, Lithuania).
The Project is aimed at improving Ukraine’s commercial road transport safety in line with the EU technical requirements and best international practices as well as decreasing the number of traffic accidents and resulting fatalities.
The Project Leader on behalf of Ukraine Mykola Snitko in his opening remarks expressed gratitude to the European experts for providing opportunities on using of international experience in creation of commercial road transport safety in Ukraine.
The Project Leader on behalf of the Republic of Poland Tomasz Polec mentioned the importance of reforms implemented within the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
The Resident Twinning Advisor Michal Rzemieniewski presented the Second Quarterly Report of the Project and plans for the next reporting period. In addition, the participants discussed and approved the activities during the next quarterly period and agreed on the date of the next Steering Committee Meeting.
Junior Project Leader on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany Robert Maiworm, Junior Project Leader on behalf of the Republic of Lithuania Darius Sadaunykas, Transport Sector Manager of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Svitlana Didkivska attended the meeting.
For reference: since 2005 according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated on 06.10.2005 № 1424/2005 «The Issue on Provision of the Twinning Programme Implementation in Ukraine» the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service directs and coordinates the activity on preparation and implementation the Twinning Programme in Ukraine. Moreover the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service is the national coordinator of implementation of the institutional building instrument.
