On July 5, 2016 at the premises of the state enterprise Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute the official closure conference of the Twinning project “Strengthening the Protection and Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in Ukraine" was held.
The project was implemented by the State Intellectual Property Service of Ukraine together with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office.
The goal of the project was to strengthen the administrative capacity and competence of the State Intellectual Property Service of Ukraine, provide proposals for the effective legal measures against counterfeiting and piracy and to ensure effective implementation of legislation and sanctions against violators of intellectual property rights. The project was aimed at reducing piracy and creating favorable conditions in accordance with the EU legislation for improving the investment climate in Ukraine by raising the efficiency of public health and protection of intellectual property.
The Acting Head of the State of Intellectual Property Service of Ukraine Antonina Malish, greeted the participants of the meeting and presented the main achievements of project implementation, in particular, development of a number of legislative acts of Ukraine in the field of intellectual property, focused on topical aspects during the period of project implementation, at the end she thanked the European experts for support and assistance. The Resident Twinning Advisor Pablo Rodenas congratulated all participants on the successful closure conference and expressed his willingness to participate in joint projects.
Furthermore, the Head of Trade and Economic Section of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Nicholas Burge, the Head of the High Council of Justice of Ukraine Igor Benedysyuk and Head of Economic Development and Environment of the FIIAPP Sonsoles Moriis Álvarez addressed the participants of the meeting and underlined the importance of the project for Ukraine, noting the strong relationships that had been developed between the partners during the project implementation, that will facilitate the effective implementation of the delivered goals in the future.
The final conference was attended by representatives of the State Intellectual Property Service of Ukraine, the EU Delegation to Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian and international experts. From the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service the meeting was attended by the Senior Consultant on the Twinning Coordination Sector of the Projects Management Unit Julia Fedyna.
For reference: since 2005 according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated on 06.10.2005 № 1424/2005 «The issue on Provision of the Twinning Programme Implementation in Ukraine» the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service directs and coordinates the activity on preparation and implementation the Twinning Programme in Ukraine. Moreover the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service is the national coordinator of implementation of the institutional building instrument.
