On May 11, 2017 at the premises of the Ministry of Regional Development, Building and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine (Minregion) the fifth steering committee meeting of the Twinning Project “Introduction of a Management System of Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in Ukraine” was held.
The project is implemented in joint cooperation with the Environment Agency Austria, International Bureau for Water of France and Regional Ministry of Environment and Territory of Spain.
The goal of the project is the gradual harmonization of the Ukrainian waste management system to the EU standards by implementing an effective, long-term system for household waste, in particular for WEEE and waste batteries in a first step.
Head of the Department for Improvement of Territory and Household Services of the Minregion, BC RTA Counterpart Maksym Barinov in his opening speech underlined the main outcomes of the project implementation, in particular drafting of the Laws “On Batteries and Accumulators” and “On Waste of Electrical, Electronic Equipment and Batteries” that will contribute the establishing of legislation in relevant area.
RTA Elina Velinova Stoyanova-Lazarova presented for consideration of participants the quarterly project report as well as outlined the main activities during the reporting period. In addition, the key recommendations for the effective project implementation were determined and planned activities for the next reporting period were underlined.
Head of the Department for International Cooperation of the Environment Agency, MS Project Leader from Austria Johannes Mayer emphasized the importance of the project realization in Ukraine.
Also in order to straight the effectiveness of project realization and raise the awareness on results of its implementation among representatives of environment, enterprises of manufacturer, civil society the creation of a strong information system was discussed during an event. Furthermore, the possibility of extending the term of project realization was considered.
On behalf of the EU Delegation to Ukraine the Sector Manager on Energy, Environment, Green Economy, Civil Protection Jean-François Moret took part in the meeting as well as presented the main comments and remarks to the quarterly report.
MS Project Leader from France Pierre Henry de Villeneuve, representatives of the Minregion and others also participated in the meeting.
On behalf of the Center for Adaptation of the Civil Service to Standards of the European Union the Deputy Head of the Projects Management Unit Inna Bielobratova attended the meeting.

according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Initiation, Preparation and Implementation of the Twinning projects” as of October 11, 2016 No 700 the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service coordinates the implementation of Institution Building Instrument Twinning in Ukraine.
In addition, according to the relevant regulatory acts the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service is the national coordinator of institution building instrument TAIEX and CIB programme implementation in Ukraine.
